Health Insurance
People residing in Switzerland are legally obliged to take out health insurance. Health
insurance is a private obligation and is not dealt with through the employer (except in
the case of sick pay). Each family member who is not gainfully employed must be insured
separately and pay an insurance premium. The Swiss health insurance
schemes offer insurance in accordance with both the Krankenversicherungsgesetz
(KVG) [health insurance regulations] and also Zusatzversicherungen (ZVG)
[supplementary insurance].

Accident Insurance
Each employee is required to be insured against both accidents at work and outside of
work. In case of a stay in hospital, SWISS CAPS AG offers you the option to be
dealt with privately or semi-privately. The additional costs are covered by Swiss Caps.

Unemployment Insurance
In order to be able to claim unemployment benefit you must, as an Aufenthalter
[someone with permission to live and work in Switzerland], have been in gainful
employment for at least 12 months of the two years previous to becoming unemployed.
Information can be obtained from the Arbeitslosenkasse [unemployment benefits office].
